Neural tube defects and your pregnancy
NTDs, named neural tube defects, are complications that your baby can have when you are pregnant. The Ultrasound scans for NTDs
An ultrasound scan is the best and safest procedure for you during pregnancy. You have to undergo a minimum of 2 ultrasound scans during the whole pregnancy. The first scan is usually the dating scan. It helps to predict the due date of the baby. The doctors make sure to perform the dating scan before the 12th week of the pregnancy. Another scan called the nuchal translucency scan is for checking the other details in the bbay. It is done after the 12th week.
The Morphology scan
When you are in week 18 to 20, a scan is done to check different things. And it is called the morphology scan. In this scan during pregnancy, the main focus is checking the physical conditions of your baby’s body. And due to this scan, the spina bifida is diagnosed.
What to do
Suppose the test shows that your baby is having complications of spinal befida. In such situations, you have to calm yourself down and ask your doctor for help. You would be given advice, either to continue the pregnancy or abort the baby. Most women think of ending the pregnancy in such situations.
